The surprise backpack

April 29, 2012

Mum and I are so excited to give Ana her surprise travel backpack.   We still have to get Lucy in there yet but we did a practice run and she should fit.

It's filled with books, paper, stickers, crayons and pencils. Bows for her hair and new Dora socks and Dora sunnies. Snacks, her Dora waterbottle and a pillow for her neck that looks like a dog.

Papi is going to like this backpack too because there is a bit that he can hold on to to keep her close by.   But most importantly we hope the pack keeps Ana entertained for all three flights today!

Honouring the ANZACs

April 28, 2012

We might be a few days late, but today the Kiwis and Aussies of Portland honoured the ANZACs.

There was food of course.

And Winston Churchill was a guest (I got to feed him!)

Michael entertained us with the didgeridoo.

Rafa was all chatty and smiling for the first few hours but then he conked out.

For non Kiwi and Aussie readers: ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Corps) Day is our national day of remembrance for all those who died in military combat.  It is commemorated on the 25th April each year in honour the ANZACS who died at Gallipoli during the first world war.  It is a public holiday and a day of national pride.

What happened to Mum?!

April 27, 2012

Rafa and I were stunned. Someone took away Mum's hair!

Changing Lucy

April 26, 2012

I'm constantly changing Lucy's nappy.

She really should be using the potty.

Especially since Mum has been scratching her head about where all the nappies have gone when I wear big girl undies to the office.

Moving Rafa

April 24, 2012

OK Rafa. I want to take you to my playroom. Just work with me here ok?

See! I told you I could move you!

We'll be in the play room in no time.

What do you mean, Mum? He's fine. We're just going to the playroom.

OK Mum! I've stopped, alright? But really, it's the easiest way of moving him. I don't know why you don't drag him all over the place.

The hottest day in my entire life

April 23, 2012

It got up to 86 F (30 C) today breaking the 1995 previous record of 79 F (26 C).  It’s the hottest I’ve ever been and to be quite frank, I didn’t like it much.  Apparently we’re back into the 60s (15 – 20 C) tomorrow which is typical for this time of year.

I was knackered after baby boot camp in the sun even though Mum did all the running!

Mrs Nature is smiling

April 22, 2012

Mrs Nature must be happy that it’s Earth Day because she has turned up the heat to 80F (27C).  The first day to hit the 80s since mid October last year.

Perfect for a barefoot skip in the grass.

And for replenishing the bird feeder.

We had a string of visitors but they were all a bit camera shy.

We thought Earth Day was befitting to give the plant I grew at the office a permanent home in our garden. Although we're not sure what he is so we hope we put him in a suitable spot.

I tried to give him a good drink but I think the plants around him got more water than he did. I hope Mrs Nature will help him grow up big and strong.

3 months

April 21, 2012

Today I turn 3 months old.

Mum says I already weigh a ton.  I think that is a figure of speech but I’m already in clothing made for 6 month olds so maybe I am close to a ton?

I love to sit up and be involved in what is going on which poses somewhat of a dilemma because I can’t sit up on my own yet.  I especially like to be included at meal times and often sit on Mum or Papi’s knee at dinner – although that’s not just to be sociable I like to see what they are eating too.

I’m not sure what colour my eyes are going to be.  Sometimes they look like they are turning brown like Papi’s but other times they look like they are going to stay blue like Mum’s eyes.

I try very hard to talk properly but Mum, Papi and Ana have no idea what I’m saying and they say the strangest things back to me which makes me laugh!

I’m fascinated by the mask collection we have on the living room wall and what’s going on outside my bedroom window and I also enjoy playing on my pink play mat (it was a hand-me-down from Ana).

I think my big sister is the coolest person ever.  I like to watch what she does and give her big smiles when I catch her eye.  She sings to me and plays with me and gives me big kisses so I side with her when she’s trying to rally votes for watching Dora on TV.

It was a beautiful day to celebrate turning 3 months old.

Warning: this post may gross you out

April 20, 2012

Mum has purchased a snot sucker.  It’s the latest recruit in Mum’s booger removal arsenal that’s lined up on my bedroom window sill: saline drops, sprays, wipes and fancy saline filled Q-tips.  Bulb aspirators and even a fandangle battery operated aspirator.  Unfortunately even with our small chemist at Mum’s finger tips several times a night Mum and I have screaming matches over her clumsy attempts at coaxing out my stubborn snot.

In a desperate search for another solution, Mum went online and express couriered (paying more for the speedy delivery than the contraption itself) this hose like device of which one end goes up against my snotty nostrils and the other end in her mouth… and then she successfully sucks those little boogers out!

Ana trying to use the snot sucker on herself.

It’s a NoseFrida.  The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator.  We got ours from Amzon.com

PS.  Before you all get completely grossed out.  There is a filter in the device so my grotty boogers don’t end up in that back of her throat.
