Cherry harvest

June 20, 2012

We thought the best way to harvest our cherry tree was for  Papi to hold me up, me to do the picking and Mum to collect them in the bowl.

But I could only reach the fruit on the bottom branches and the sampling rate was around 90%.

So Papi decided to make a tool out of a broom handle and a wire coat hanger to get the cherries that were out of our reach.

It was my job to collect them in the bowl.  Whilst we were managing to accumulate cherries at this stage (Mum was also picking the ones within her reach), we gave Papi’s tool a 10/10 for creativity but only a 3/10 for practicality.

Mum went and got the step stool. Papi stood on top to do the picking and I was helping Papi to stay on.

Papi said I was more help holding the bowl.

I was getting tired of just holding the bowl.

Being up on the step ladder doing the picking was much more fun.

But I didn’t anticipate the fast descent and the rough landing. Nothing that a kiss from Papi and a bowl full of cherries couldn’t fix.

Entertaining Lucy

June 19, 2012

Lucy can be a bit of a handful sometimes when we’re all trying to have a relaxing coffee at a cafe.

This time I came prepared with a stack of books.

I put her in the highchair so she wouldn’t run around and read to her some of her favourite stories.

Book after book after book.  It’s tiring keeping a poodle entertained!  I could do with another coffee.

A day for Papi

June 17, 2012

Today is Father’s day in the US so today we did some of Papi’s favourite things.  I wonder if we need to make a fuss of him again in September when it’s Father’s day in Australia?

Coffee and bagels in the sunshine at Insomnia.

And ribs for dinner!

Feliz día del Padre, Papi!

A day in the life of a strawberry picker

June 16, 2012

So the idea is to pick the berries that have turned red and put them in the punnet. Easy.

I might just sample one before I start.

These are really good.

super sweet.

What do you mean I’m supposed to be filling the punnet?

Oh, you mean like that.  It’s a good thing Mum and Papi got the hang of this picking thing.

We were at the Father’s Day Weekend Berry Jam at Kruger’s Farm.

Plastic surgery

June 15, 2012

I’ve had my lips done.

I’ve just had lip augmentation done.  Styled from Mr Potato head.  Co-incidentally we don’t own a Mr Potato head.  But my office does.  Somehow his lips ended up in my pocket.  I think they look much better on me!

Our first fight

June 14, 2012

The morning started out pleasant enough.  Ana and I were loaded into the pram ready for our morning walk to Ana’s office.  I was sitting upright trying to getting used to being out of the infant sling for the first time.  And then I hit her.  It was by accident.  I still don’t have much control of my limbs.  But Ana thought it was a deliberate act of brotherly violence and she hit me back!  Mum had to mediate a peace agreement.  Fortunately, probably for Mum more than anyone, we were buddies again by the time we reached Ana’s office.

Sitting side by side in the pram for the first time.

Froggie and Reepicheep

June 13, 2012

Papi will get such a surprise when he finds out that two house guests have arrived whilst he is away.

Lucy and I enjoyed meeting Froggie.  His family are from Africa and he showed us his clawed hands.  He was very outgoing.

Reepicheep was shy at first and didn’t want to come out of her strawberry house.

But she loosened up over dinner and I think she’s going to enjoy her week with us.

This is my responsibility… apparently

June 12, 2012

Apparently it is my responsibility to clean up the play room even though it was a team effort in getting it like this in the first place.

Oh look here are the maracas.  Wait, what am I supposed to be doing?

Rafa barely lifted a finger.

It was the first time I had tried this vacuuming thing.  Quite frankly, I liked it.  Except for Mum pointing out spots I’d missed.  That was really annoying.

OK Mum, I’ve still got 21 letters to go. Would you please stop playing with that camera and help me?!

This table is so clean I could eat off it. Mum said that was the point. When it was all done I wanted to stay and play but it was time for bed already.  I’m not so sure I want this responsibility.

A farewell to our abuelo

June 11, 2012

Nuestro abuelo.

Hoy se fue al cielo un gran hombre, nuestro abuelo.  Abuelo los que tuvimos la gran suerte de conocerte.  Se queremos mucho.

The two of us with our abuelo and some of our cousins in Argentina earlier this year.

Our abuelo passed away this morning.  We feel so lucky to have been able to spend time with him recently.  He was an entrepreneur and who valued education, a strong work ethic and family.  We hope to learn from that and make him proud.
