Farmers fun

Brekky.

Mum and I also went to the lettuce guy and bought what we thought was three heads of lettuce – but ended up with three BIG bag fulls.  When we got back to the car Abuela had done exactly the same thing.  I think we’ll be having lettuce for breakfast, lunch and dinner this week.

Bunnies

March 30, 2013
Easter bunnies have arrived over night.

It’s a day for bunnies.

What do you get when you pour boiling water down a rabbit hole? Hot cross bunnies! (groan, thanks Abuela).

We took bread down to the ducks today.

Hunting day

March 28, 2013

We woke at 5:30am roaring for breakfast and eager for the sun to come up so we could get out and explore.  We had big plans.  We’ve been told that both bears and fairies have been spotted in Hamilton.  We were keen to find them.

We'd been told that both bears and fairies had been spotted in Hamilton. We were keen to find them.

I asked Abuela for a torch, I thought that would come in handy for looking in dark caves.  Mum, Rafa and I set out for the park.  We were sure we’d find bears there.

There wasn't a bear to be seen at the park, but I over came that disappointment pretty quickly when I saw the playground.

When we got back to Abuela's Agnes, the garden sheep gave us a tip off about a recent fairy sighting.

Behind the bushes, by the crab apple tree I couldn't believe my eyes!

Then…. behind the bushes, by the crab apple tree, we found it…

We must have found the fairy circle and they left us lunch. Baby tomatoes, quail eggs, mini burgers and mini marshmallows, chocolate eggs and fairy bread for desert.

The fairies lair!  And even more exciting than that, they had made lunch for us. Baby tomatoes, quail eggs, mini burgers and mini marshmallows, chocolate eggs and fairy bread for dessert.

Rafa, who had already had a hot cross bun, 2 pieces of toast, 3 bananas and melon this morning was the first to take a seat and dig in.

Now that I've discovered where the secret fairy spot is I'm even MORE eager to meet some fairies. I plan to come out to the fairy table again tomorrow.

A sunshine welcome

March 27, 2013

The trip was, as expected, long. Especially the big wait between planes at LA airport.

But after 24 hours of travel we are at Abuela and Iggy's house. It took me no time to find a ballerine costume (just my size!) and for Rafa to find food.

And we spent the afternoon outdoors on the patio.

22.9 kilos

March 25, 2013

Mum is proud of her travel preparation efforts.  Not only has she fitted everything in one suitcase (so there is a spare hand for us) but it’s 100gm below the weight limit.  I might stick in another pair of pants…

unpacking Ana's Princess water bottle.

I’m sure “don’t touch” doesn’t apply to Ana’s Princess water bottle.

She won't mind sharing.

See you soon New Zealand!

I made it… then I didn’t

March 24, 2013

Mum and Papi took us on a run this morning and we ended up in the park for a bit of play time.

I decided I was going to run the mile home (about 1.6km) and I made it!

Animal hospital

March 23, 2013
I spent the morning working as a vet in the animal hospital at the Portland Children's Museum.

I listened to the dogs' hearts and looked in their eyes and ears and gave them all injections.

I looked at all their x-rays on the light box. I had to phone a friend for help with some of the diagnosis.

I had a very capable assistant, but some of the dogs were bigger than him.

Red, orange, yel-low, green, blue, purple. That makes a rainbow bright, alright!

Farmyard dominoes

March 21, 2013

Me:  I want to watch Diego, Mum.

Mum:  Ana, you’re not watching tv tonight.  There are much better things to be doing.

Me:  What’s better than tv?

(I think there was an audible sigh from Mum after that)

But Mum was right, playing a few rounds of my new dominos game with her was kind of fun (although I'm sure she was making up the rules as we went along).
