In, but not connected

January 31, 2014

The good news is:

We're in! And we've found all the essentials.

We’re in! And we’ve found all the essentials.

But we’re not connected until the middle of next week.  The company we chose for our communications and alarm were supposed to come yesterday but when we rang them to find out why they missed their installation window they informed us that they weren’t wired up for our area until the 1st of March!  Whilst they offered us all sorts of deals to keep us as a customer, just starting in a months time, we rang their competitor who is already wired and we only need to wait for a technician to come out.  Needless to say, the blog might be a bit sporadic until sometime next week.

We’ve got this packing and cleaning routine down

January 29, 2014
The big truck delivered all our toys and other essentials 20 days after our late night arrival to Houston. No wonder we're all tired!

The big truck delivered all our toys and other essentials today.  What a whirlwind our first 19 days in Houston have been to make this happen so quickly!

And tonight we packed up and cleaned the apartment. We're so excited to be officially moving in tomorrow.

And tonight we packed up and cleaned the temporary apartment in preparation to vacate tomorrow morning.  We’ve certainly got that routine down pat now.  The last pack and clean for a long while… we hope!

School cancelled again, but this time on a very busy day!

January 28, 2014
For the second time since we've been at school here (7 days!) it's been cancelled. But today Mum and Papi had a lot to do. We were at the builders home demonstration all morning.

For the second time since we’ve been at school here (only 7 days) it’s been cancelled due to hazardous weather. But unlike last time, today Mum and Papi had meetings the entire day. The morning was filled with the builder’s home demonstration.

Houston wasn't as iced over as it was the other day, but it did snow a little bit. We ate our snack in front of the fire.

20 home demo 3

And eventually managed to get some games up on the iPad.

Then in the afternoon we had to go and sign all the paperwork for closing. We were still well behaved at this point but that didn't last for the entire meeting. I think we're going to be sent to bed early tonight. Boo hoo. We were just excited about our new home too! (and sick of waiting around inside all day).

I think we’re going to be sent to bed early tonight. Boo hoo. We were just so sick of being inside doing boring grown up stuff all day.

Perfecting the double piggy

January 27, 2014

We've perfected the double piggy!

But the game came to a crashing close when we bonked heads on a backward dismount onto the bed.

The Houston Zoo and Hermann Park

January 26, 2014
Mr Sun is back and we celebrated with a trip to the Houston zoo.

The Houston zoo is awesome!

This zoo is awesome!

The grounds are beautiful. Perfect for a Sunday stroll.

The grounds are beautiful. Perfect for a Sunday stroll.

The grounds are beautiful and the enclosures are open and make it easy to get close to the animals.

And the enclosures are really open making it easy to get close to the animals (Mum didn’t have her long lens but didn’t need it!)

There were lots of friendly volunteers who had interesting facts to share. Like this baby elephant and I are really close in age and he gets watermelon as a treat too!

Although the volunteer was unsure how to explain why the komodo dragon didn't have wings.

And I wanted a zoo keeper to come down and wake the grizzly up because it was morning already and really time he got out of bed.

The carousel was designed around the zoo residents.

And the petting zoo was another highlight.

After the zoo we soaked up a little more sun in Hermann Park (we're not sure if the zoo is IN Hermann Park or just beside it) but we think that's our favourite Houston spot so far and sure to be back there soon.

The home and garden show

January 25, 2014

We headed to the Katy Home and Garden Show today to buy necessary appliances for our move next week and then have a little fun researching outdoor kitchens.

There were some great outdoor living companies there that are going to give us quotes for our kitchen.

We met some great outdoor living people that are going to give us quotes for our BBQ project.

And whilst there weren't any good appliance options, there were lots of other cool things to look at.

So after we left the show we went appliance shopping. Rafa and I made it easy for Mum and Papi.

After we left the show we went appliance shopping, since that really was the day’s objective.  At least at the shop Rafa and I made the task easy for Mum and Papi and that’s another thing off the list.

No! Not in Houston!

January 24, 2014

We woke to all of Houston frozen over, 27F (-3C) temperatures and school cancelled for the day.  This isn’t what we expected of Houston!

After having some struggles getting into our iced over car we had to wait 10 minutes for it all to defrost before we could go anywhere.

The rest of the day we were couped upside. We were a huge help to Mum with her transcribing.

Good news, bad news

January 23, 2014

The good news is the Audi wasn’t stolen last night.  The bad news is it got towed because we got in too late for a parking permit.  Doh!  It hasn’t been a good car week.

More bad news:

Carlos is unintentionally spending a night at the office. Mum and Papi tried to use one of our new Cross Creek Owl mascots as a substitute.

But more good news:

The house inspection went well today and our closing date has been brought forward to next Tuesday!!!

Car #2 arrives

January 22, 2014

After dinner and after our bath we got loaded up into the car in our PJs to go and pick up the Audi from the big shopping parking lot up the road.  He couldn’t drop it off to us directly because the car transporter couldn’t fit into our street!

The truck took up 10 car park spaces! It was exciting to watch our car come off.

He had to use 10 car park spaces to park.  It was exciting to watch our car come off.  We asked the driver if we could swap ours for the Q7, since that one was easier to get off and all, but he said no.

Turning two

I like the easy access wrapping, Mum.

I like the easy access wrapping, Mum.

Cool. It's a back pack I can drive.

Cool. It’s a back pack I can drive.

It's so nice that my family from around the world thought of me. Thanks Grandpa John and Jennifer for the book. I'll read that tonight.

Thanks Grandpa John and Jennifer for the book. We’re really missing our library at the moment.

Now THIS is cool.

THIS is cool.

And a soccer cake!

And a soccer cake!

Making a wish!

Making a wish!

At two Mum and Papi describe me as a sports fanatic (soccer takes #1 spot but I like basket ball and baseball too).  I’m also passionate about cars, trains and planes and will yell “go! go! go!” from my car seat when we’re accelerating at speed.  I play rough but I’m also very affectionate.  I’m serious but have a wicked and cheeky sense of humour.  I’m. extremely. stubborn.  My body is long but my legs are short.  I like reading books, my teddy Carlos (“My Alos”), doing anything Ana is doing, wrestling with Papi and lots and lots of cuddles with Mum.
