The Houston zoo is awesome!

This zoo is awesome!

The grounds are beautiful. Perfect for a Sunday stroll.

The grounds are beautiful and the enclosures are open and make it easy to get close to the animals.

And the enclosures are really open making it easy to get close to the animals (Mum didn’t have her long lens but didn’t need it!)

There were lots of friendly volunteers who had interesting facts to share. Like this baby elephant and I are really close in age and he gets watermelon as a treat too!

Although the volunteer was unsure how to explain why the komodo dragon didn't have wings.

And I wanted a zoo keeper to come down and wake the grizzly up because it was morning already and really time he got out of bed.

The carousel was designed around the zoo residents.

And the petting zoo was another highlight.

After the zoo we soaked up a little more sun in Hermann Park (we're not sure if the zoo is IN Hermann Park or just beside it) but we think that's our favourite Houston spot so far and sure to be back there soon.

Ana, have you tried standing on one leg like the pretty pink flamingo?

  2. Bree @ meandmy2guys Says:

What an awesome zoo. As you know we are huge zoo fans. And I seem to recall a certain high paced carousel ride in Seattle. ….

  3. John Faris Says:

Wow – what a fantastic day you had.

  4. Iggy Says:

Eek! I will have to stop eating beetroot! Beetroot might have some of that beta stuff in them. And I sometimes have difficulty standing on two feet so I cannot do that flamingo thing. But I can sleep in late like the grizzly.

    • Ana Says:

Carrots are full of beta carotene! You can eat those to perfect your one legged standing. And I looked up more about the carotenoids they put in salmon after this discussion. Humans can take a carotenoid pill to tan their skin… but side effects include maybe going a bit orange! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
