The Alamo

December 31, 2016

This morning we visited The Alamo and learnt all about the pivotal battle in Texas’ history.

In February / March 1836 the Mexican Army took The Alamo Mission in a 13 day battle against the Texian defenders. The Mexican Army outnumbered the Texian Army 6 to 1 and with the news of the defeat of Alamo, General Santa Anna assumed the Mexican Army would be able to hold back the resistance.

However, the fall of Alamo had the opposite effect and it sparked Texan settlers and adventurers from the United States to flock to Houston’s Army to defeat the Mexican Army in the battle of San Jacito in 18 minutes on April 21. Santa Anna was captured and forced to withdraw Mexican troops and Mexican control of the territory giving legitimacy to the newly formed Republic of Texas.

Party City

December 28, 2016

After helping Mum out in the http://www.kiwiimporter.com warehouse all morning we were rewarded with a cafe afternoon tea and a trip to Party City. We both came out with huge bags of birthday party goods – plates, cups, decorations, party favors – the lot! You’ll have to wait for our parties to see what themes we chose!

December 25, 2016

It’s been a day of food and fun.Origami, reading our new books and playing with our new toys (Star Wars Lego and the science experiment kit were stand out hits). We went out to the park, Skyped family overseas and played many, many rounds of Yokai Monopoly. Who knew Rafa was such a capitalist?!

The start of Christmas Break

December 17, 2016

Tonight we had the coolest Christmas party to welcome in the Christmas break.

We made our own Christmas decorations:

Got pressies from Secret Santa…. once we worked out which one was ours!

And decorated our own cookies for dessert! (actually a more accurate description of dessert was sprinkles and frosting with a bit of cookie hidden in there somewhere.

Christmas break has started on a high!

Singing Elf

December 2, 2016

Today we went to sing to the old people. We sang Jingle Bells, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. I sang very loudly and they liked that very much.
