The weekend chores were smashing

February 16, 2014

Well, the Saturday chores went fine:

We sorted out the garage, unpacking the very last of the boxes.

and put up the parilla.

and put up the parilla.

But today:

The clock went up only to come smashing down a few minutes later (Papi managing to rescue Raffy just in the nick of time).

And the hole in the mask arrangement wasn't by design. The mask Mum bought on her first trip to Chaco smashed (it was already a little dinged up from the bus crash Mum and Papi were in on that trip) and a little later the monkey fell and broke his earring. I think we're going to have to rethink our hanging strategy.

Mum’s gone to pour herself a glass of wine as we speak.  I think she’s over moving.

Connected!

February 5, 2014
We got to watch a program about dragons whilst Mum caught up with her online stuff.

A week after the tv was pulled out of its box we are finally able to watch a show.  We learnt about dragons whilst Mum caught up with her online stuff.

Cookies from a neighbour!! Rafa had MORE than his fair share.

Welcome cookies from a neighbour!! We love how friendly people are here.  Rafa was especially happy with our welcome gift.  He had MORE than his fair share, even though he’s the smallest.

In, but not connected

January 31, 2014

The good news is:

We're in! And we've found all the essentials.

We’re in! And we’ve found all the essentials.

But we’re not connected until the middle of next week.  The company we chose for our communications and alarm were supposed to come yesterday but when we rang them to find out why they missed their installation window they informed us that they weren’t wired up for our area until the 1st of March!  Whilst they offered us all sorts of deals to keep us as a customer, just starting in a months time, we rang their competitor who is already wired and we only need to wait for a technician to come out.  Needless to say, the blog might be a bit sporadic until sometime next week.

We’ve got this packing and cleaning routine down

January 29, 2014
The big truck delivered all our toys and other essentials 20 days after our late night arrival to Houston. No wonder we're all tired!

The big truck delivered all our toys and other essentials today.  What a whirlwind our first 19 days in Houston have been to make this happen so quickly!

And tonight we packed up and cleaned the apartment. We're so excited to be officially moving in tomorrow.

And tonight we packed up and cleaned the temporary apartment in preparation to vacate tomorrow morning.  We’ve certainly got that routine down pat now.  The last pack and clean for a long while… we hope!

School cancelled again, but this time on a very busy day!

January 28, 2014
For the second time since we've been at school here (7 days!) it's been cancelled. But today Mum and Papi had a lot to do. We were at the builders home demonstration all morning.

For the second time since we’ve been at school here (only 7 days) it’s been cancelled due to hazardous weather. But unlike last time, today Mum and Papi had meetings the entire day. The morning was filled with the builder’s home demonstration.

Houston wasn't as iced over as it was the other day, but it did snow a little bit. We ate our snack in front of the fire.

20 home demo 3

And eventually managed to get some games up on the iPad.

Then in the afternoon we had to go and sign all the paperwork for closing. We were still well behaved at this point but that didn't last for the entire meeting. I think we're going to be sent to bed early tonight. Boo hoo. We were just excited about our new home too! (and sick of waiting around inside all day).

I think we’re going to be sent to bed early tonight. Boo hoo. We were just so sick of being inside doing boring grown up stuff all day.

The home and garden show

January 25, 2014

We headed to the Katy Home and Garden Show today to buy necessary appliances for our move next week and then have a little fun researching outdoor kitchens.

There were some great outdoor living companies there that are going to give us quotes for our kitchen.

We met some great outdoor living people that are going to give us quotes for our BBQ project.

And whilst there weren't any good appliance options, there were lots of other cool things to look at.

So after we left the show we went appliance shopping. Rafa and I made it easy for Mum and Papi.

After we left the show we went appliance shopping, since that really was the day’s objective.  At least at the shop Rafa and I made the task easy for Mum and Papi and that’s another thing off the list.

Car #2 arrives

January 22, 2014

After dinner and after our bath we got loaded up into the car in our PJs to go and pick up the Audi from the big shopping parking lot up the road.  He couldn’t drop it off to us directly because the car transporter couldn’t fit into our street!

The truck took up 10 car park spaces! It was exciting to watch our car come off.

He had to use 10 car park spaces to park.  It was exciting to watch our car come off.  We asked the driver if we could swap ours for the Q7, since that one was easier to get off and all, but he said no.
