Hill Country Vacation

July 23, 2017

We all agreed that the tube slides were the trip highlight – with the lazy river and beach a close second. We also enjoyed the kids night out because we got to order whatever we wanted for dinner (including juice and dessert) and play games with other kids.

The Alamo

December 31, 2016

This morning we visited The Alamo and learnt all about the pivotal battle in Texas’ history.

In February / March 1836 the Mexican Army took The Alamo Mission in a 13 day battle against the Texian defenders. The Mexican Army outnumbered the Texian Army 6 to 1 and with the news of the defeat of Alamo, General Santa Anna assumed the Mexican Army would be able to hold back the resistance.

However, the fall of Alamo had the opposite effect and it sparked Texan settlers and adventurers from the United States to flock to Houston’s Army to defeat the Mexican Army in the battle of San Jacito in 18 minutes on April 21. Santa Anna was captured and forced to withdraw Mexican troops and Mexican control of the territory giving legitimacy to the newly formed Republic of Texas.

We celebrated with my birthday dinner on the River Walk. Unfortunately WordPress and / or the hotel internet are not cooperating in uploading our pictures of that!
