Art with Abuela

April 3, 2013

Mum set off for Auckland early today and so Rafa and I played with Abuela and Iggy all day.  By mid morning Rafa was ready for a nap (that’s what happens when you spend all morning as a tiger chasing the bear in a white tutu under the kitchen table).  Whilst Rafa was sleeping Abuela and I brought out our inner artist.

I applied glue to my canvas.

I carefully applied PVA to my canvas.

Then we put on photos, ballerina stickers, glitter and stars to make a picture.

Then arranged photos, ballerina stickers, glitter and stars. I’m thrilled with the end result.

Rafa thought the ducks shouldn't be the only ones enjoying the picnic.

Hunting day

March 28, 2013

We woke at 5:30am roaring for breakfast and eager for the sun to come up so we could get out and explore.  We had big plans.  We’ve been told that both bears and fairies have been spotted in Hamilton.  We were keen to find them.

We'd been told that both bears and fairies had been spotted in Hamilton. We were keen to find them.

I asked Abuela for a torch, I thought that would come in handy for looking in dark caves.  Mum, Rafa and I set out for the park.  We were sure we’d find bears there.

There wasn't a bear to be seen at the park, but I over came that disappointment pretty quickly when I saw the playground.

When we got back to Abuela's Agnes, the garden sheep gave us a tip off about a recent fairy sighting.

Behind the bushes, by the crab apple tree I couldn't believe my eyes!

Then…. behind the bushes, by the crab apple tree, we found it…

We must have found the fairy circle and they left us lunch. Baby tomatoes, quail eggs, mini burgers and mini marshmallows, chocolate eggs and fairy bread for desert.

The fairies lair!  And even more exciting than that, they had made lunch for us. Baby tomatoes, quail eggs, mini burgers and mini marshmallows, chocolate eggs and fairy bread for dessert.

Rafa, who had already had a hot cross bun, 2 pieces of toast, 3 bananas and melon this morning was the first to take a seat and dig in.

Now that I've discovered where the secret fairy spot is I'm even MORE eager to meet some fairies. I plan to come out to the fairy table again tomorrow.

Surely it doesn’t count as “screen time” when Abuela is involved

October 16, 2012

This is the good kind of screen time!

Chatting with Abuela and the Green Monster.

I thought Snake might like to chat with the Green Monster too but Snake didn’t have much to say.

Abuela read to me.  That was fun.

and I read back but Abuela asked too many questions about the story I just couldn’t explain.  I don’t know why the elephant had cake on his head!

Going home

Abuela said she's going to miss us terribly.

So she tried to pack us into her suitcase.

Abuela’s left arm

March 6, 2012

As far as places to relax go, I have a preference for Abuela’s left arm.  It’s much softer than on a blanket on the floor.  It’s much warmer than my cot.  It’s much more cozy than in my rocker it’s even on a better angle than Abuela’s right arm.

I wonder if she can leave her left arm here when she goes back to New Zealand.

Abuela has arrived!

February 23, 2012

Abuela arrived from New Zealand today to help out whilst Rafa is sick.  It’s a sad reason that she’s come over to see us but we’re all very happy that she’s here.

She loved hearing about what I've been up to recently. It's just like chatting on Skype except she's really here!

She gave me some animal soaps which we played with after my bath. Abuela said that they were supposed to come IN the bath tub with me but I thought they were too pretty for that.

Then we read some books together before bed. Afterwards we took the books into Abuela's bedroom because she promised me that we can read them together again tomorrow morning. I hope she likes reading at 6am.
