A jolly good bush walk

April 26, 2010

OK – so I’m not looking very jolly in this picture, but Mum, Dad and I were feeling jolly at Jolly’s Lookout in Mt Nebo.  How can you not be happy out on a family walk on a glorious day with these spectacular views?  Jolly’s Lookout is a wonderful picnic spot – although we had already demolished our picnic at the midway point of the 8km Boombana trail.  How lucky we are to have all these amazing places for weekend walks only half an hour away from home.

Other great bush walks close to Brisbane here and here.

Back to the bush

Mt Coot-tha is a regular walking spot for us because it’s only 15 minutes from our home in the CBD.  There is a fantastic lookout where you can see right across Brisbane and there are heaps of different walking tracks with picnic spots and barbeques, creeks and waterfalls and lots of shade.  Today we started at the look out point car park and went on a track that took us down the hill to a picnic spot and back up again.  Dad says that he can tell I’ve grown because this time he was puffing and sweating on his way back up the hill.  The photo is of Dad and I going down to check out what’s in the creek.

Baby goes bush

My first day out bush walking was so much fun!  We went to Springbrook National Park which is only a couple of hours drive from home.  It was so exciting walking through the rain forest in a big loop from the look out, down to the bottom of a waterfall and back up again.  There were lots of stairs and it was a bit slippery because it has been wet – but it wasn’t a very hard walk.   Mum and Dad weren’t even puffing even though Dad was carrying me and Mum was carrying the picnic.   I’ve posted a photo of the three of us just before we walked under the waterfall and got all wet!
